With students, parents and staff facing plans to close Sixth Form proviision at this popular local school, Molescroft parish councillors, Paul Brayford and Margaret Pinder, have been calling for more clarity on the best way forward for a sustainable post-GCSE offer.

Local parents and children have been shaken by potential plans to suspend Longcroft Sixth Form for the next two years citing low enrolment. East Riding Council has also announced it intends to repurpose the Sixth Form facilities at the school.

The news dropped just as many students are heading into important exams this summer. For many of these pupils, plans to continue their studies at the school had already been made.

The school’s informal consultation document circulated to parents drew attention to a significant financial deficit that would be created by maintaining a Year 12 intake in September 2026. This would have a profound impact on the viability of the whole school.

Head teacher David Perry attended a meeting of Molescroft Parish Council where he fielded questions from concerned parents and councillors. However, uncertainty remains about the
school’s future offer.

Local councillors Paul Brayford and Margaret Pinderwho also attended a meeting with parents at the school, have called for greater clarity on what support is available for parents, students and staff if these plans go ahead.

“We share the concerns expressed at this potential reduction in the offer for Sixth Form students within the wider Beverley communities. Obviously everyone wants the best outcome for our local children. What we’re asking for is more clarity on what ERYC’s intentions are for the site and for Longcroft’s current student body.”
